FAVOR IN HIS SIGHT

Week 6: Ruth 2:2-4
Favor In His Sight
Day 1: A Moabite in bethlehem
Ruth 2:2
“So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “ Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “ Go, my daughter.”
Why do you think the Author mentions Ruth’s nationality, but not Naomi’s?

Considering that the Moabites were enemies, even oppressors of God’s people, who do you consider today’s Moabites?

Have you ever in any way been one?

Do you ever struggle with the sense that you may not be fully welcome in His Home?

Romans 8:34
“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” For what do you think He is interceding in your life right now?

Romans 8:37
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” What is He whispering to you?

Hebrews 4:15-16
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” What difference does it make to you that He sympathizes?

Tell Him about the the mercy and grace you need today:

Describe the throne of grace:

Exodus 33:13
“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” In your own words, rephrase this prayer:

Meditate on this truth till your soul believes it:
Psalms 84:11
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

Day 2: in his sight
Pray that your eyes may be opened:

Ruth 2:2
“So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “ Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “ Go, my daughter.”
What do you associate with eyes?

As your spirit searches for His eyes, what do you see there?

Psalms 33:18
“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,”
Tell Him what you hope for from Him:

Job 28:10
“He cuts out channels in the rocks,
And his eye sees every precious thing.”
What is most precious to you?

Do you know that you are His most precious thing?

Zechariah 2:8
“For thus says the Lord of hosts:“He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”

Read this passage and insert your name in the blank lines:
Deuteronomy 32:10-13
“He found ______________ in a desert land
And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness;
He encircled _____________, He instructed ____________,
He kept _________________ as the apple of His eye.
As an eagle stirs up its nest,
Hovers over its young,
Spreading out its wings, taking them up,
Carrying them on its wings,
So the Lord alone led _______________,
And there was no foreign god with ________________.
“He made _____________ ride in the heights of the earth,
That _______________ might eat the produce of the fields;
He made ________________ draw honey from the rock,
And oil from the flinty rock;”
What part of this touches you most directly today?

The Lord speaks from outside of time. He, Who knows everything, promises: Psalms 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”
Whatever is on your heart right now, tell Him:

2 Kings 6:16-17
“So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “ Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” How has He opened your eyes today:

Day 3: favor
Take a deep breath and exhale your thoughts to Him:

Invite Him to speak to you:

Ruth 2:2a
“So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “ Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” What does it mean to find favor?

The Hebrew word encompasses; graciousness, kindness, beauty, grace , pleasant, precious, Which of these most grabs your attention, and why?

Where do you need His favor today?

Exodus 33:13a
“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.”
Some weeks ago, we studied the circle of bitterness. Do you see how this is its opposite, the circle of grace? “Now therefore, I pray, if I have found _________in Your sight, show me now Your way,
that I may know You
and that I may find ___________in Your sight.”
To this prayer, God answered, as He always does: “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14) Where might you long for rest today?

Where might you need Him to show you His way?

How do you long to know Him?

Exodus 33:17
“So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” Psalms 5:12
“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.”
Lest you question if you are righteous enough for His favor: 2 Corinthians 5:21
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Luke 1:45
“Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Thank Him:

Day 4: go!
Dedicate this time and your heart to Him:

Ruth 2:2-3
So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “ Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.” And she said to her, “ Go, my daughter.”
Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. What was Ruth hoping for?

How did she come to the field belonging to Boaz?

What are you hoping for?

What can you learn from Ruth?

Isaiah 42:16
“I will bring the blind by a way they did not know;
I will lead them in paths they have not known.
I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.”
What is He showing you?

Exodus 18:20
“And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.” Psalms 16:11
“You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Do these two verses seem to contradict or enhance each other?

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Which good works do you think you are created for?

How are you walking in them?

Proverbs 3:3-6
Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Amen.
Day 5: the lord be with you
Praise Him, however you want to:

Ruth 2:4
“Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered him, “The Lord bless you!” How do Boaz and his workers greet each other?

Is that foreign or familiar to you?

Meditate on this blessing to Abraham from Genesis 22:17
“blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.” Romans 4:23-24
“Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,” What does this blessing mean to you?

How aware are you that the Lord is with you?

Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
Do you sense in any area of your life that He is on the outside, knocking to be let in?

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Which yoke are you trading with Him?

Exodus 33:14
“And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” What do you anticipate will war against your awareness of His Presence today?

How will you protect it?

Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” Isaiah 41:10
” Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. ’
