COMFORT WITHOUT COMPASION
Ruth 2:13-17; Week 9
Day 1: Comfort without Comparison
Ask your Father to show you His love afresh:
Ruth 2:13
“Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.” Describe comfort:
When have you experienced it?
Who generally speaks kindly to you?
Who would say that you bring comfort or speak kindly to them?
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.” Tell Him where you might need His comfort right now:
Isaiah 40:1-2a
“ Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” says your God.
“ Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned;”
Whom is He impressing on you to comfort?
Ruth 2:13: “…..though I am not like one of your maidservants.” Do you tend to compare yourself with others? Describe:
Song of Songs 6:9
“My dove, my perfect one, is the only one,
The only one of her mother, the favorite of the one who bore her. The daughters saw her and called her blessed…”
Do you know that He sees you as His only one, His favorite?
How is it a blessing to be free of comparison?
Isaiah 66:13a
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you…”
Your response:
Day 2: Come to Communion
Tell Him why you have come to Him now:
Ruth 2:14
“Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “ Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.” Where do you feel hunger/ exhaustion/ longing in your life?
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Do you believe that He wants to take your burden?
1 Corinthians 11:23-25
“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you:that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “ Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “ This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” What does He want you to remember?
Does that help you find rest for your soul?
John 8:31-32
” Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “ If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” What does that mean to you today?
Psalms 139:1-3
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways”.
Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Is He showing you an area in your life where you can invite Him deeper in?
Ruth 2:14 “… and she ate and was satisfied…”
Tell Him how He satisfies your soul:
Psalms 23:3
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” Day 3: Protection
Seek shelter under His wings:
Ruth 2:15
“And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.”
Is there anyone or anything to whom you need to hear your Lord say, “Do not reproach her”?
Deuteronomy 1:30
“The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,” How have you already seen Him fight for you:
Psalms 34:4-5
“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.” As you look to Him now what do you see?
Psalms 68:33-35
“To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old! Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
Ascribe strength to God; His excellence is over (__insert your name. ) And His strength is in the clouds.
O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!”
Praise Him in your own words:
Ruth 2:15: “… And when she rose up to glean…”
What is He telling you to rise up and to?
Song of Songs 2:10-12a
“My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come,” What song is playing in your spirit:
Song of Songs 2:14
“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, let me hear your voice;
For your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”
Acts 3:6: “…In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” Day 4: Double Protection
How do you long to encounter Him today?
Ruth 2:15-16
“And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. Also let grain from the bundles fall purposely for her; leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.”
Verse 16 seems a stronger repetition of verse 15. What is the Author emphasizing?
What does that tell you about His heart toward you?
Psalms 5:11
“But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.”
Shout for joy right here:
Underline what most applies to you:
Psalms 68:5-6
“A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.
God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”
Genesis 15:7
“Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.” From what has the Lord brought you?

Under each verse, write how it relates to you:

Though I walk through__________________________________________________, I will fear no ___________________________________________________________. For You are with me; Your ____________________________________ comforts me. Amen.
Day 5; Work
Matthew 6:10
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In your own words, surrender to His will:
Ruth 2:17
“So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.” If this were the only verse describing Ruth, what would we know about her?
Galatians 2:16
“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.” Why then, do you think the Author emphasizes her hard work?
Matthew 21:28-31a
“ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘ Son, go, work today in my vineyard. ’ He answered and said, ‘I will not, ’ but afterward he regretted it and went. Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘ I go, sir, ’ but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” What is He impressing on you right now?
John 4:34-35
“Jesus said to them, “ My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. Do you not say, “There are still four months and then comes the harvest ’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” Do you know what His work for you is in this season?
Do you have a sense of your life’s purpose?
James 1:5
