Ruth 2:13-17; Week 9
Day 1: Comfort without Comparison

Ask your Father to show you His love afresh:

Ruth 2:13
“Then she said, “Let me find favor in your sight, my lord; for you have comforted me, and have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants.” Describe comfort:

When have you experienced it?

Who generally speaks kindly to you?

Who would say that you bring comfort or speak kindly to them?

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.” Tell Him where you might need His comfort right now:

Isaiah 40:1-2a
“ Comfort, yes, comfort My people!” says your God.
“ Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned;”
Whom is He impressing on you to comfort?

Ruth 2:13: “…..though I am not like one of your maidservants.” Do you tend to compare yourself with others? Describe:

“My dove, my perfect one, is the only one,
The only one of her mother, the favorite of the one who bore her. The daughters saw her and called her blessed…”
Do you know that He sees you as His only one, His favorite?

How is it a blessing to be free of comparison?

Isaiah 66:13a
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you…”

Ruth 2:14
“Now Boaz said to her at mealtime, “ Come here, and eat of the bread, and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed parched grain to her; and she ate and was satisfied, and kept some back.” Where do you feel hunger/ exhaustion/ longing in your life?

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Do you believe that He wants to take your burden?

1 Corinthians 11:23-25
“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you:that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “ Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “ This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” What does He want you to remember?

Does that help you find rest for your soul?

John 8:31-32
” Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “ If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” What does that mean to you today?

Psalms 139:1-3
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways”.
Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Is He showing you an area in your life where you can invite Him deeper in?

“And when she rose up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.”
Is there anyone or anything to whom you need to hear your Lord say, “Do not reproach her”?

Deuteronomy 1:30
“The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,” How have you already seen Him fight for you:

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.” As you look to Him now what do you see?

Psalms 68:33-35
“To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old! Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.

Ruth 2:15-16

Verse 16 seems a stronger repetition of verse 15. What is the Author emphasizing?

“So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.” If this were the only verse describing Ruth, what would we know about her?

Galatians 2:16
