AT HIS FEET

Ruth 3:1-11; Week 11

Note: These verses are rich in cultural and Biblical allusions, which will be addressed Tuesday night at Oasis. If you cannot attend, it will be online soon after. For our devotion, we will handpick five verses and let Him speak.

Day 1; Security
Tell your Father why you love Him:

Ruth 3:1
“Then Naomi her mother- in- law said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek security for you, that it may be well with you?” What comes to mind when you think of security?

For whom are you seeking security? Tell Him:

For what are you concerned right now?

Luke 12:7
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Do you know this to be true?

Romans 8:32
“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” Imagine your life if He had not spared His own Son:

Psalms 40:1-2
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.”
How has this been true for you:

Proverbs 1:33
“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely,
And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
What is He telling you?

How will you obey?

Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Day 2; Feet, Clean and Beautiful
Like a toddler running to her Father, run into His arms:

Ruth 3:4
“Then it shall be, when he lies down, that you shall notice the place where he lies; and you shall go in, uncover his feet, and lie down; and he will tell you what you should do.”
This in one of those verses we will dissect much more on Tuesday (or online), but for now, describe what you think is going on:

What do you associate with feet?

John 13:5-10a
“After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples ’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “ Lord, are You washing my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “ What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.” Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “ If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
Simon Peter said to Him, “ Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”
Jesus said to him, “ He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean….” How do need Him to wash you today?

Meditate on this, until you know it to be true:
John 15:3 “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”

Psalms 18:36
“You enlarged my path under me, so my feet did not slip.”
Where might you need Him to secure your steps?

Psalms 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
What is He showing you?

Isaiah 52:7
“How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Pray that you may bear His Good News today:

Amen.
Psalms 18:33
“He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places.” Day 3; Midnight
Invite Him to fill you:

Ruth 3:8
“Now it happened at midnight….”
Let your associations run free; what do you associate with midnight:

What are you generally doing at midnight?

Psalms 119:62
“At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You,
Because of Your righteous judgments.”
This was written in a culture where regular prayer times were scheduled throughout the day. How can it enrich your life? No law here, just ask Him how this may relate to you:

Acts 16:25-26
“But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.” Which chains might you long to have loosed?

What can you learn from Paul and Silas? Be a specific as you can:

Mark 13:35-37
“Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming —in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning — lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all:Watch!” In what areas of your life might you be spiritually asleep or tempted by sleep:

How is He calling you to watch?

Matthew 25:6
“ And at midnight a cry was heard:‘ Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him! ’ How would you feel if Jesus came back for you today?

Revelation 22:12-14
“ And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” Your response:

Day 4: More… than….
Ezekiel 16:6
“…I said to you…, ‘ Live! ’ Yes, I said to you…, ‘ Live! ’ Invite Him to speak to you:

Ruth 3:10
“Then he said, “ Blessed are you of the Lord, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men, whether poor or rich.” What strikes you in this verse?

Deuteronomy 30:5-6
“Then the Lord your God will bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. He will prosper you and multiply you more than your fathers. And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.” What does this mean to you?

2 Kings 6:16
“So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Where do you need to know that the angels who fight for you are more than those who fight against you?

Psalms 68:35
“O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!”
Praise Him for His strength and power in your life:

1 Peter 1:6-7
“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ..” Surrender to His testing fire:

As you read the net two verses, ask Him to show you clearer the service He is asking of you: Revelation 2:19
” I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first.” Exodus 36:5
“The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.” What is He impressing on you:

Deuteronomy 1:11
“May the Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times more numerous than you are, and bless you as He has promised you!” day 5; Wash, Anoint, Dress
Ask Him to wash you in His Word today:

Ruth 3:3a
“Therefore wash yourself and anoint yourself, put on your best garment…” Describe the feeling of being unwashed:

Ezekiel 16:9-10
“Then I washed you in water; yes, I thoroughly washed off your blood, and I anointed you with oil. I clothed you in embroidered cloth and gave you sandals of badger skin; I clothed you with fine linen and covered you with silk.” How has God done this for you?

Revelation 19:7-8
“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” Before this Wedding in Heaven, how has His Bride made herself ready?

Romans 8:4-6
“…that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” What is He showing you?

Ephesians 5:26-27
“that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” What does the Word do in your life?

John 15:3-7
“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
“ I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” Go ahead, ask:

2 Corinthians 1:21-22
“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” Thank Him for what He has done and is doing:
